Creating Space for Minor Tooth Movement

There must be interdental room in the arch for the target tooth to move. The most common ways to create space for MTM are interproximal reduction and air-rotor stripping.

Interproximal Reduction (IPR) – shave enamel with stainless steel or diamond strips, or strip away enamel with slow speed discs or burs

Air-Rotor Stripping (ARS) – using high-speed burs to reduce the proximal surface of  a tooth

Use both methods to remove up to 1mm of enamel from each contact area (1/2mm per tooth surface)
