There must be interdental room in the arch for the target tooth to move. The most common ways to create space for MTM are interproximal reduction and air-rotor stripping.
• Interproximal Reduction (IPR) – shave enamel with stainless steel or diamond strips, or strip away enamel with slow speed discs or burs
• Air-Rotor Stripping (ARS) – using high-speed burs to reduce the proximal surface of a tooth
Use both methods to remove up to 1mm of enamel from each contact area (1/2mm per tooth surface)
